Part 2: To Grandma's house we go...

We went to Columbia, SC this weekend to visit Grandma. The kids had so much fun that they didn't want to leave and woke up this morning asking if we could go back.

Where do I begin? Grandma is one of the best cooks and we spent Saturday relaxing in her lovely home, eating and playing with the doggies. Then she took us to the Zoo for the 'Boo at the Zoo' festival... They decorate the zoo for Halloween and the kids get to go trick or treating (oh and see some of the animals too)... my favorite part of the evening was watching Husband and Grandma roast marshmallows with the kids (I wasn't allowed to take part because I like mine burnt)

Thanks Grandma for an awesome weekend... we love spending time with you! btw, Nubbin wanted me to tell you that he loves you... literally, asked me to make sure that I write in the blog, 'I love you Grandma...' heehee :)

Part 2: Cotton candy, cows and corndogs...

We had a blast at the State Fair this year... great memories with the Getz Gang... alas, I didn't take many more pictures than this, so you don't see the awesome lighted swords the kids got or the fried peanut butter and jelly sandwich Husband ate or the 612 pound pumpkin... The kids were so cute and excited to be there!

Nubbin got on a few rides only to decide that he didn't want to ride them (although he and husband rode a kiddie roller coaster that scared everyone else) and Fafa wanted to ride more, but was too short. CharlieGraham were fearless as usual and Little Sis was so good to Fafa and took him on a ride by herself... can't wait until next year!

Can't we just all get along?

Our Obama yard sign was vandalized on Friday. We put up another one only to have it stolen and replaced with a McCain sign.

I'm so disappointed that there are people that would engage in such juvenile behavior. No matter how much I disagree with the other candidate, I would never deface/steal someone's sign out of their yard. Don't we all have the right to our opinions? There's my social commentary for the day... now off to get more signs.

btw, husband suggested putting up another sign that reads, 'Every sign you steal means 5 more dollars to the Obama campaign.'

He said, she said...

Nubbin has been having weird outbursts lately and calling people mean names... peanut head, poopy head, etc. So, he and I had a discussion about what nice pet names he could call people. I definitely need to work on my communication skills because he just didn't get it.

Mommy: 'You can't call people mean names. But, you can use nice words like the names of vegetables... sweet pea, succatash, butternut squash, pumpkin...'

Nubbin: 'You're a vegetable..'

Mommy: ' No, don't call people "vegetable", call them a vegetable...'

Nubbin: 'You're A vegetable'

Mommy: 'No, not vegetable... a specific vegetable'

Nubbin: 'You're a "supetific" vegetable'

Mommy: 'nevermind... good night.'

He's the fun parent

Husband has been doing overtime this weekend and kept the kids for most of the day. They had to go to a birthday party (Husband's first experience taking them to a party by himself) and then I had a baby shower, so he had them all afternoon too.

When I came home from my party, they were out in the back yard... roasting marshmallows on a portable grill that they bought this afternoon. I called one of my closest friends and she said, 'he's getting in touch with his inner child'... at least one of us still has energy... heehee.

Cinderella times 2

I kept my neighbor's son for the morning last week. He and Fafa were helping me sweep the floor, so I thought I'd make them look the part. They were too cute together and I hope they will grow up to be good friends and not hate me for publishing this on the blog...

This is how you accessorize

Nubbin needs a tool belt. He stuffed every one of his tools in his underwear. It's a wonder he had room for what was actually supposed to be in there.

I want to be...

Nubbin finally decided on a costume for Halloween. After watching Nascar on Sunday, he decided emphatically that he wanted to be a race car driver. So, I found this on Craig's list for 10.00... Yay, mom delivered. I told him to give me his best 'tough boy' look, but it just looks like he's grumpy...

Charades... 3 syllables...

Fafa says.... 'ambulance'...

Martha ain't got nothin' on me

Just bought the pillows... the kid, I've had for a while... I can't decide if I want to keep them... the pillows, I mean. Same way that it was with the lamps, but I now love that purchase.

Silence is scary

Whenever it's quiet in our house and both boys are at home, it usually means they've locked themselves in the bathroom and are throwing wet toilet paper at the ceiling....

So, imagine my surprise when I realized it was quiet and instead of the usual disaster, I found them playing together on the floor in the playroom... I think they may actually grow up tolerating each other's company... maybe I'm speaking too soon.

btw, laugh at the thought of me tearing through the house, tripping over various toys and looking for the camera because I had convinced myself that this would never happen again... I'm such a pessimist.

Version 2.0

Husband wasn't pleased with his first Pho experience, so he decided to try again. This time, he realized that the missing ingredient was star anise, cinnamon, and using beef broth... Needless to say, he got it right this time. oh and he didn't add as many noodles... good job Husband!

Lost in translation

Nubbin was in the bathroom making a poop (yay, he finally gets it!) and was yelling for Husband to come check it out. Fafa immediately started blabbering nonsense in an excited tone and we realized he was trying to tell Husband that Nubbin needed him.

We figured it out because the only understandable words Fafa muttered were: Zachie, poop and help

Consumer economics

Part of Nubbin's routine at night involves looking out his bedroom window to check for muscle cars (our neighbors have an old mustang), look for clouds (the threat of thunderstorms scares him) and to see if there are any fireflies. This particular evening the sky was clear and he saw a bright star. The following is the exchange between us as witnessed by Husband.

Nubbin: I see a star...

Mommy: Make a wish... wish for something you want!

(long pause)

Nubbin: No, I think Target has it...
