Welcome to the real world

Nubbin asked a very funny question while we were in the car the other day.

Nubbin: 'How do you buy a new car in a video game and a new car on the road?'

Mommy: 'Well, in a video game you have win several races and then get points to buy a car, but in the real world, you have to save enough money and then you can buy a new car.'

(I was trying to impart some of my own parents' wisdom. Dad always said 'never buy a car unless you can pay for it outright')

Nubbin: 'How about if I win a race in a video game and get points. Is that like real money? because then I could buy a real car.'

Mommy: 'Not even close baby'

Nubbin: 'well, when I'm all big, I'm going to save my money in my piggy bank and buy a race car for me and a monster truck for Ethan.'

Mommy: 'that's why I love you...'

Glen Eyrie Camp - Craft time

Every day in WI involved some sort of craft. It was one of many ways to keep the kids occupied when we're out in the middle of a bunch of corn fields and here's the rundown of the crafts we ended up sending home with Pop Pop.

-2 stenciled art aprons
- 3 wooden models - 1 race car, 1 space ship (Fafa) and 1 bi-plane
- 3 pet rocks - all with googly eyes and painted
-1 set of painted garden rocks - Live, Laugh, Love
-1 painted bird house
-2 star signs - 1 for Fafa's bedroom and 1 'the Wolfe Family'
-1 painted tote bag for Grandma Ranicki
-1 bouquet of button flowers
-assorted drawings

Rebel yell

I gave the kids temporary tattoos today and after gazing at the star on his arm, Nubbin asked me if I wanted one too. I told him that I already had a tattoo and after much pleading from both kids, I showed them my lizard.

I asked Nubbin if he wanted a real tattoo someday and he looked at me and said, 'No thanks, I already have one.' Let's hope that sticks and I never have to experience the shock my parents had when they realized I had one :)

Xmas spoiler alert

I think this should be next year's Xmas card picture... love this pic of my boys :)

Glen Eyrie Camp - First sailing lesson

The boys had their first sailing experience with Pop Pop the day before we left to come home. Nubbin, who is usually our more cautious child, was the one who really wanted to go. Fafa, not so much, since water is the only thing he's a little apprehensive about.

Nubbin had a minor accident on the dock as he was waiting for the boat and got knocked in the head with the boom... luckily Pop Pop bore the brunt of the impact, but it was enough to make him wary of the sail... hence, for most of the time, he kept his head down and popped up every once in a while like a prairie dog to point at something in the water.

Once Nubbin got off the boat, he told me that he didn't like this boat and preferred one without a boom. I mentioned that if the boat didn't have a boom which is attached to the sail, then it wouldn't be a sailboat. He thought about it for a while and then said, 'Then I'd like to go in a taller sailboat so my head doesn't hit the sail.'

After an initial, 'NO!' Fafa decided he wanted to go. Although, it looks like he's relaxed, I think it was just that he didn't move from where Pop pop placed him.

I will say that he followed instruction pretty well for a 2 1/2 year old. After seeing Nubbin get hit, Fafa was very careful to duck every time Pop pop tacked. Hopefully, this introduction will get them used to the idea and I haven't scarred them for life.

Glen Eyrie Camp - cookout time

Starting the first of many cookouts in WI - Pop pop teaches the boys how to start a fire. Maybe this isn't the best thing to show 2 boys, but we all had a great time watching the fire burn... from a distance.

No matter how old you are, you can still shuck corn... the boys really enjoyed throwing the husks over the side of the deck

These are the actual hot dog forks used for the original camp. Notice how excited the boys are to try cooking their first campfire 'tube steak'

Fafa loves his corn. he even tried to eat the center.

Nothing says cook out like a smore. Although, mommy needed instruction on how to properly assemble the thing. I still like my marshmallows burnt :)

Shake what your momma gave you

Nana and the Getz Gang came over for dinner and afterwards, we broke out the Dance Revolution game for Xbox... Nana is SO going to get us back for putting this on the BLOG :)

Color blind

I always wondered when the boys would notice that Husband and I are different colors. The boys were taking a bath together and we had this conversation.

Fafa: 'You dark, Momma.'

Me: 'Yes, I'm darker than you. Am I darker than Nubbin?'

Fafa: 'Yes. You darker.'

Husband comes to listen to the conversation...

Fafa (pointing at husband): 'Daddy, you red.'

Husband: 'What color are you, Fafa?'

Fafa (pointing to himself): 'I red like you!'

Husband was trying to explain to Nubbin why Nana has to have surgery on her hand. He was explaining that as we get older, we tend to break down a little and might require surgery to help us feel better and move with greater ease.

Nubbin looked at Husband, waved his hand around to demonstrate his flexibility and said, 'Not Me! I'm not older, I'm newer!'
